Hey, see if you can solve this puzzle my brother posed. I can't.

You have to get a marshmallow across a river. The river is ten metres deep, one kilometre wide, and is very fast flowing. The marshmallow is made of gold, and will exploded on contact with the water. The river alternates between being filled with water, and being filled with lava. You can't use the bridge because it burned up when the river first turned to lava, and you can't give up and go home because your home is on the other side of the river. There is no crocodile living in the river to help you if you're wearing its favourite colour. What do you do?

Also, a dream I had. At the start I was willingly helping a monster to be a monster, but that's not the part I'm willing to talk about. Later in the dream, I found out that [info]damned, a roleplay I applied for about a month ago and will probably find out if I got in soon, actually does allow Homestar Runner characters. Which it wouldn't, because the canon isn't dark enough. There were even people playing Homestar Runner characters. Which characters tended to vary whenever I checked. I distinctly remember there being a Coach Z at one point, but later the characters were definitely Homestar, Strong Bad, Strong Sad and The Cheat. Which are the characters I'd've wanted to play the most. But I still wish it was true, because that would've been awesome even if I didn't get the character I wanted.

While I was waking up, I felt extremely anxious for no reason! Over and over and over! What fun!

I also dreamed that I'd dreamed that I was the Brothers Strong's mother. Which was a lot cooler.

And now maybe I'll eat something or get dressed. That time at the top of the entry is a total lie. (No it isn't)

TENTACLE MONSTER

I had a dream last night! A Homestar Runner fandom-y dream! I'll write it down before I forget it.

So Limozeen were apparently touring in my dream, because they were playing in some tiny venue in Canberra. When I found that out, I went straight there because otherwise I'd miss it. They played Because, It's Midnite, and it was really cool. Then I decided that maybe I should call my parents and tell them where I was, so I did. My mum was quite angry, which was understandable.

At the show, I met up with [info]kartoon_kween, which apparently I didn't think was anything out of the ordinary. Somehow, we ended up talking about Mike/Matt. I'm very squicked by real person slash, especially when it's something like incest, but that's what we ended up talking about. [info]kartoon_kween brought it up, not me. Just like in real life! She showed me a series of pictures that were supposed to be Mike/Matt, but fortunately for my sanity, weren't. Instead, they depicted a totally non-sexual scene in which the Brothers Chaps were being attacked by a giant, tentacled monster. I think she drew it... Or maybe [info]dutchtoast drew it. She was around somewhere too, but I didn't run into her. But it wasn't in either of their styles. If I had to guess, it was more like [info]chakramchucker's style. Which made the dream even more bizarre.

The pictures still disturbed me, because I'm sort of squicked by real person fic even when it's not incestous slash between people I greatly admire. But I didn't have much time to dwell on that until I woke up, because the scene suddenly switched to an ancient haunted town. [info]kartoon_kween was still there, but we decided to split up because apparently my dream had turned into a bad slasher movie. Except for the part where nobody died.

Our objectives: Either find a way out, discover the secret of the town, or wander around like idiots, I can't remember which one it was. I do remember that the tentacled monster was somewhere in the town, adding a sense of urgency to the proceedings. There turned out to be a lot of puzzles in the town, and a lot of people trapped there. But I never found out what the secret was, because my parents picked me up, and then I woke up.

I never even got to see sloshy play...

Dreamed last night

I haven't been dreaming much lately, but I did have a fun one last night.

So I was travelling in... Sudan, maybe? Somewhere in the northeast of Africa. Then I decided to go to Israel. So I did. It was a bit further south in my dream than it actually is, I think.

So I went to Jerusalem. I knew it was Jerusalem because I went through an arch that said "Welcome to Jerusalem" in English and only English. In my dream, the city resembled a giant shopping centre, which was really cool. Not realistic, but cool.

So then I remembered that Elcool lives in Jerusalem, even though he doesn't. According to his userpage on the Homestar Runner Wiki, he lives in Rishon LeZion. But in my dream, there was only one city in Israel, and I don't mean that I only thought about one city. There was literally only one city in Israel. I looked at a map. So I met up with Elcool, and we hung out. It was fun.

I woke up soon after. Jerusalem was nice, and much more peaceful and harmonious than news reports had led me to be believe. It could've used some better lighting, though. It was kind of dark the whole time I was inside.

Well, the internet's back up. Obviously.

Last night I had a South Park dream in which Cartman had killed Kyle. It felt really familiar, but I don't know where from. I think it was sort of like the Animorphs book where David "killed" Tobias... It was also a bit like that fanfic idea I had where Cartman takes over the world in the future and the present day version of either Stan or Butters has to stop him. In the future. It actually wasn't a ripoff of that episode where Cartman freezes himself because he can't wait for a Wii to come out and ends up in the future. My story idea came first. Anyway, I don't know why the dream felt so familiar.

I think my brother liked his amusingly named present. (Pokemon XD! It's like calling it Pokemon :)!) He was playing it. But it takes up a lot of memory. 47 blocks or something. And there's only one save slot. Which is a pity, because I wanted to play it too.

First off, this [info]fandomsecrets song I'm listening to is quite funny. I don't really care for the style it's sung in, but I like the lyrics.

I hate the fandom
I hate the people
I hate the slash
And the het
And the gen

Hee hee.

And I had this awesome dream last night. )

I have the new Obernewtyn book. Finally! It came out! Tonight, at long last, the plot continues! This! Is! Post-apocolyptic Europe!

...Well, if you had to wait five and a half years for the next book to come out, you'd be excited too. And I got off pretty lightly. The last book in the series came out in 1999, and I didn't get into it until 2002.

OOC premises

Why do I keep having dreams that unsettle me? I'm scared of ants, and I keep dreaming about them, and last night I had a dream that I got dropped off on Black Mountain, only I didn't realise it was Black Mountain until I saw the Telstra Tower. Seeing the Telstra Tower close up freaks me out even when I'm prepared for it, so that was a big shock. Also, I don't think the back of Black Mountain is covered in dry grass, but it was a dream, so whatever.

Anyway. I was thinking about fanfiction premises and whether any could be inherently OOC and impossible to do well. And I decided that they could.

I also decided to post about it. I'm really only talking about one fic here )

A Bunch Of Little Things

Dreams: A couple of nights ago, I dreamed that there were catastrophic floods so bad that they passed mountain ranges. At one point I was at the beach one second, and the mountains the next. The next morning, I found a story about bad storms on the east coast in the newspaper. I hadn't heard about that before, so I was pretty surprised.

Nostalgia: This morning I got up early (for me), and started feeling nostalgic for 2001, when I was twelve and in year seven. Even though I was being bullied really badly then, and had no friends, and the work wasn't that enjoyable either. I think I just missed the atmosphere, but I miss every atmosphere, including the one where I was watching South Park all the time to try and forget about how horribly depressed I was.

More dreams: Last night I dreamed I was watching episode 313 of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Despite the lack of firebending, and, I think, main characters, I didn't realise that it wasn't actually that episode until after it finished. It was really episode 311, which is nothing like the episode in my dream at all.

Overreacting over fanfiction: This complaint about Strong Sad's characterisation in Homestar Runner fanfiction ran a bit long, so I'll put it in its own entry.

LJ: I think I really needed a comm like [info]capslock_hsr to exist.

Cognitive dissonance: Yesterday I spent most of the day reading about and watching subbed anime. Then I started to watch a movie, and was actually confused for a few seconds that they were speaking perfect English.

Mood theme: I really need to finish this mood theme.

Internet dream

So I'm back, and I had a weird dream last night. I read a lot of books on my trip.

So in my dream, I visited the Brothers Chaps in some weird, geometric, kids' show land. Apparently they lived together there, though it may have been their workplace. Little Girl was there as well, for some reason. I think she was the age she was in the earlier Little Girl shorts, not how old she was in Marshie vs Little Girl. All I really remember is talking to either Mike or Matt, and saying that I thought the Homestar Runner characters were inherently funny. I only have a vague memory of why I said that.

Continuing on, I found that the Godawful Fanfiction forums were really an orphanage. Even in my dream I noticed the strangeness of a forum that requires all its members to be over eighteen, really being an orphanage. That'd be a good TV show or something, actually. GAFF is very big on the internet drama, and translating all the regulars there into children living in an orphanage would be really funny.

Then I found a story where a swarm of ants possessed someone. I think it was Strong Sad. The person I was roleplaying with (It was that abrupt in the dream as well) came up with two endings for that. One played out the consequences of this, the other ignored that it had ever happened because it was just too weird.

...Yeah. Really weird and disjointed, I know. Now I should write something, and be frustrated over the fact that the clearest story in my head at the moment is an alternate ending for Opposites Attract 20X6. Not again. ...That's not what I'm writing.

Gamish Dreams

Here are a couple of dreams I had. Because my dreams are so totally fascinating.

In the first one, I was playing some sort of... block game, maybe? It was a recent, cutting edge game with great graphics and an involved storyline, but most of the gameplay consisted of pushing blocks. At one point, I found a minigame that could better be described as "the entire first Phoenix Wright game". As I'd never played Phoenix Wright, my subconscious made up a lot of random stuff. Um. Edgeworth was there. I only have the vaguest idea of who Edgeworth is, but he was there.

There was a part in the minigame where I had to figure out who was telling the truth. They were all talking about general knowledge stuff, but because it was a dream, I had no idea what they were talking about. One person, who was female and whose name started with m (not you, [info]mwagen, if you're reading this) started talking about the backstory to Star Control 2, pretty accurately if I remember correctly. I was like "Well, that's true, but is it the right answer? I don't think the game requires knowledge of a completely different game in order to beat it." But before I could make a choice, I woke up.

In the other dream, I was playing the Falling Sand Game, despite the fact I'd decided a few months ago to stop playing it because it was so addictive. I have no idea why I'd be dreaming about it now. I guess it's not as bad as the time I had three dreams practically in a row about Opposites Attract (The Homestar/Strong Bad roleplay on deviantART, not anything else by that name).

Anyway, in my dream the graphics for the version of the Falling Sand Game I was using were very good. I filled up the whole stage, which really did look like a stage, with sand, then dropped some ants on it. You can't get ants in any version of the Falling Sand Game, but in my dream they made an anthill and some tunnels in the sand. I dropped some water down the hole and washed everything away, then tried dropping the ants on some salt. They died.

Now I want to play a version of the Falling Sand Game with ants.

(I'm not that thankful, I just like the image I used to represent it)
